This has been one of my favourite books for the last twenty years. I can't remember where I picked it up. Probably Japan. It is about a family bred for the cicus: there is an albino hunchback narrator, a pair of cojoined twins, a boy who can control things with his mind, and their brother who looks like a merman and starts off a cult where people cut off their arms and legs in order to become disabled. It's weird and freaky and totally believable. I aim to write with the verve, the electricity that Dunn has; and I want to write about such unbelievable things so that the reader falls completely for the narrative.
